Mark is currently the minister of Grace Church Dundee, but prior to that he served as UCCF Team Leader for Scotland (2007–2014). He loved working with a staff team and within CUs of all shapes and sizes to help students reach out in mission.
Mark is married to Joanne, who is from Larne. Joanne has studied in both the Republic of Ireland and in Northern Ireland. She also has extensive experience of student work. Mark and Joanne have three teenage children, all of whom will be at University from this year.
Mark has cross–cultural experience, having worked with OMF for over a decade, mobilising students and young graduates for mission. Mark claims that “there are no interesting facts” about him, because he was “originally an accountant”. However, he does admit to enjoying “DIY, fly–fishing, baking bread, and drinking too much coffee.”
The chairman of the CUI Board, Jim Crookes, says: “We are really pleased and excited about Mark’s appointment. Mark is a man of God whose team leadership skills, and profound understanding of the student scene, will make a strategic contribution to the cause of the Gospel on University campuses throughout the whole of Ireland. The CUI movement has every reason to be grateful to the Lord at this moment”.
CUI’s current Director, David Montgomery, is moving to a new role within the IFES family, as Associate Regional Secretary for Teaching and Pioneering in Europe. David says: “I am delighted to hear of the appointment of Mark Ellis as my successor. I am confident that the transition between us will take place without any disruption to CUI’s momentum. I know staff and student leaders alike will benefit from his gifts and insights. As I transition into my role with IFES Europe it will be a joy to work with Mark and keep in touch with what God is doing through CUI”.
Mark and David will take up their new roles in September. The Board asks for your prayers as together they plan a seamless transition over the summer months. We want to take this opportunity publicly to thank David and his wife Gwen for the magnificent job they have done for CUI over the past five years. David has transformed the organisation. The Board is enormously grateful for all he has done, and we wish him God’s richest blessing in his new role.
