Revive our Campuses! CU prayer in May

I wonder what your campus thinks about the gospel. Outside of your CU, do they even know what the gospel is? Do they know who Jesus is?

CUI are encouraging all Christian Unions to pray for revival on their campuses every day throughout the month of May in what we are calling ‘Revive Ireland’.

The past semester was filled with mission weeks across the island (you can read about them here). Mission weeks are often considered the main outreach event in the CU calendar; everything appears to lead up to it. Now that mission weeks have been and gone, perhaps like me you’re asking yourself ‘now what?’

But God doesn’t stop being faithful. God’s Word didn’t stop being so vital to our lives the minute you left that last livestream. God’s promise to save the lost didn’t expire when your mission week did.

“For I will pour water on thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground…” – Isaiah 44 v 3

God has promised to satiate the thirsty; those searching for what will truly satisfy that emptiness.

Is your campus thirsty?

Throughout May we want to pray for that thirst. We want to pray for all students on our campuses to have that hunger to know who Jesus is and to encounter him for themselves. Because God is faithful, we can trust in the promise that he will pour living water on this land.

How can I get involved?

Firstly, pray! We will be having opportunities to pray together as CUs and as an island, but your private prayer life is just as important.

A committee member will provide you with some resources throughout the month to help you in this. These include prayer points, a prayer diary for the month, and videos aiming to answer the question ‘Why are we praying for revival?’.

Secondly, we would encourage you to take part in Prayer Walks. Covid restrictions permitting, why not take a walk around your campus or city and pray for students on your campus. Walking past the graduation building? Pray for graduates. The library? Pray for students sitting exams. If local restrictions mean you can’t get onto campus, why not use the prayer points your committee will give you and go for a walk where you live?

We will also be meeting as CUs across the island in a prayer meeting every Friday in May, alternating between mornings and afternoons. This will be a great opportunity to meet together to pray and share encouragements that we have found in praying so intentionally throughout the month. Your committee will give you access to the zoom details. As Donald Whitney says “praying regularly with others can be one of the most enriching adventures of the Christian life”.

In the final week of May we will be taking part in a week of 24/7 prayer (week beginning the 24th). This will involve students signing up for half hour/ hour slots, in which they will commit to praying for revival on their campus. Grab a friend, flatmate, or family member, either in person or on a video call, and join us in praying for revival in our time. A sign up sheet will be made available the week before.

Finally, we would love to see how you’re being encouraged in prayer throughout the month. If you use any of our resources or if you come across anything in your personal quiet times that encourages you in your prayers we would love to see them! Use the hashtag #REVIVEIreland in what you post. Let’s encourage others in our pursuit of seeing our campuses come alive for Christ!
