The Way Of Jesus is Here!

At EQUIP, we launched our gospel project, the Way of Jesus! We shared the thinking behind it, invited students to reflect on Jesus’s impact on their lives through art, and commissioned them to invite friends to read it with them. Dione, a student from Galway, passionately shares his thoughts on the project!

Hi, my name is Dione. I’m studying at the University of Galway, where I’m part of Dóchas, the Christian Union, and this year I will be serving as vice president and treasurer.

At university, it’s hard as a Christian to mention Jesus to your friends; people often don’t know where to start. After all, people can stop liking you because you’re a Christian. We sometimes assume the worst. But when I’ve actually asked my friends about faith, some have said no, and that was okay. They didn’t stop being my friends.

That’s where the Way of Jesus comes in. It’s such a concrete way to invite people to explore Jesus because it’s very simple and gives you everything you need.

First, in the Way of Jesus, there’s a conversation guide at the back that’s so helpful for students sharing their faith! It gives you a plan for talking with your friends, including which verses to read and which questions to ask. It’s such a simple, practical plan to just read with your friends.

Second, for those exploring Jesus for the first time, the Way of Jesus is a moving book that paints a picture of who Jesus really is and shows that He is the way to salvation. Take the parable in Luke 18 of the Pharisee and the tax collector, where the Pharisee goes into the temple and exalts himself, but the tax collector simply says, “God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” It shows that I’m no better than anyone else; we’re all sinners, and that Jesus saves us. We often take that grace for granted. But really, none of us deserves it, and that’s exactly what makes it so freeing: God can save anyone, even me!

The Way of Jesus is about knowing a great God who brings such joy. To me, the most joyful and beautiful thing about Jesus is the freedom His way gives. Of course, there will always be things that take their toll on your life. I personally haven’t had an easy time over the last couple of years, but the freedom you have in Jesus is amazing.

And because of that freedom, death doesn’t scare me. I’m not afraid to step out for Him! I can live to serve Him, and that’s the best part. When I leave my house, I think, “I'm not afraid of what today holds; I'm just here to do Your will.” That’s the freedom people can find in Jesus, knowing that they will be at peace wherever they go.
