CUI have the incredible privilege to host the IFES World Assembly 2027 in Ireland and we need your help in blessing the nations as part of our volunteer team!

CUI’s vision in hosting World Assembly is to also bless students on the island of Ireland by providing the Student Volunteer Programme, an eight-month training programme that offers students the exciting opportunity to volunteer at World Assembly 2027. But our vision extends far beyond a single event!

Through personal study, an orientation training weekend, and monthly gatherings with CUI staff and fellow volunteers, students will explore God’s heart for global mission in depth. We pray this journey will ignite a lifelong passion to serve God on university campuses and in local churches - both in Ireland and across the globe.

What is the role of a volunteer?

  • As part of a team, you will work to create a warm welcoming environment for up to 900 delegates from over 170 countries as they attend the IFES World Assembly 2027. 

  • You will work alongside other volunteers in guiding delegates to/from the airport, around the DCU campus, and on our organised excursions off campus. 

  • You will stay at DCU in campus accommodation with other team members, have all your meals provided, and attend daily team meetings and briefings, which will include study and worship time.

  • You will get team t-shirts and other products unique to the event to keep or share with delegates and the new friends you will make from around the world! 

  • All volunteers will get the unique opportunity to attend some World Assembly meetings and have the privilege of hearing what God is doing in and through students like you, in all parts of the world.

  • You will be expected to work, but you will also have great fun and fellowship!

  • Training and briefings will be provided for all members of the student volunteer programme.

TRAINING & SUPPORT

To support and prepare you to volunteer and grow in your faith, you will be allocated into a regional group, led by a CUI staff member, and meet monthly online or in person for two hours with the group to learn about God’s heart for mission; learn about other IFES movements; undertake some tasks to help you think about and prepare for working interculturally; and to get some practical training.

Criteria to Volunteer

    • Volunteers will be students who come with open hearts and minds, willing to learn, to be stretched and to serve Jesus and the IFES movement through participation in World Assembly 2027

    • All gifts, skills and personalities will be needed on the team

    • Commitment to a personal relationship with God and the authority of Scripture

    • You need to be a current student in Ireland or Northern Ireland; however you can also be from from ROI or NI but studying in UK; you can also be a CUI Formation or IFES Europe InterAction worker

    • Volunteers must be 18 years old by the start of World Assembly on 22 June 2027.

    • We start with an Orientation Weekend: Friday, 8th January (3:00 pm) - Sunday, 10th January (3:00 pm)

    • You will also attend a 2 hour meeting each month with other students and a CUI staff worker (in person or online) as part of a training programme - exact date/time determined locally

    • Dedicate at least two hours a month to individual tasks/training from January - June 2027

    • Be available for the entirety of World Assembly: Tuesday, 22nd June  – Thursday, 1st July 2027 (5:00 pm)

    • Volunteer Debrief: Monday, 30th August 2027 (before Equip) - as a volunteer with WA students will receive a complimentary camping place to Equip 2027.

  • There is a cost to take part in the programme which includes your training as well as your accommodation and food during World Assembly. IFES is subsidising each volunteer, however we need to make up the difference through personal and team fundraising.

    • The minimum fundraising goal to cover all your accommodation and dining at DCU while serving at World Assembly is 700 EURO / 640 GBP.

    • However, each volunteer will be encouraged to raise more to help cover all programme costs, which we have set at the equivalent to half of the full cost for IFES delegates to attend (900 EURO / 800 GBP).

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Our aim is to accommodate as many people as possible, as we know this is such a brilliant opportunity. However, we do need to ensure we have a balance of people from across the island, a range of personalities, and a balance of experiences. So, although we hope to accept everyone, demand may mean that not everyone will make the programme.  

    The programme is only open to currently enrolled students, Formation Workers, and IFES Interaction Workers.

  • We do not want money to be a reason for you not to take part in the programme - that is why the fundraising is a team target.  Some students will be able to raise more than the individual target; some will not, and that is ok. All we ask is that you are open to being part of fundraising efforts, recognising that there is a cost to attending the programme and the event, and that, as a team, we have to raise a considerable portion of that target.

  • No - our volunteers have to be able to attend the full programme at World Assembly: Tuesday, 22nd June  – Thursday, 1st July 2027 (5:00 pm). 

    That said, we anticipate some people doing the programme but not attending World Assembly, because they just want the training programme experience, or because they may, over time, realise it is not for them, or because an unexpected issue crops up that precludes them from attending. If this is you, please still apply!

  • Over the course of five two hour meetings, online or in person depending on your local group, you will be led through a study in the book of Acts. As well as the Bible study you will also learn about IFES student groups around the world and get the chance to speak to some of them directly.  You will also engage in some tasks between meetings to help you understand mission better - for example, one month you will be encouraged to speak to a mission partner you know to find out a bit more about their calling and their work.
