Experiencing the Logos Hope in Dublin
This summer, the world-renowned Logos Hope docked in Dublin. The Logos Hope is run by OM (Operation Mobilisation), and is a boat that travels across the world offering humanitarian aid and the gospel. CUI hosted a joint event with OM, called Activate, aimed at students. One of the students who attended, Kevin Corrigan from Maynooth University, shares his experience:
I first set foot on the Logos Hope on the 9th of August when I toured the ship with my family. I had previously heard about the ship from my parents and others who had boarded it years before it last came to Dublin. Aside from hearing about a bookshop and the opportunity to serve on it, I had little understanding of what it meant to serve on the ship or of the mission it aimed to carry out in various countries. After visiting the ship twice, I had great opportunities to see what God was doing on board.
The first time I visited, I took a tour of the ship, learning about its history and ongoing mission. The Logos Hope aims to share Knowledge, Help and Hope and learning about the ways in which they went about that mission showed me the incredible work God has done and continues to do on the ship. A great example of the charity and relief work that stood out to me was the distribution of glasses in impoverished areas around the world.
The second time I visited the ship was when I attended the Activate event run by OM Ireland, CUI and the crew of the Logos Hope. That night, I had the opportunity to hear stories and experiences from the ship’s crew. Hearing about their faith and reliance on God aboard the ship was both inspiring and challenging, prompting me to reflect on how I can serve. The crew did not shy away from the struggles they experienced and brought to light the hardships that can come with serving on mission. Despite this, their commitment to Christ and to reaching the world with the good news remained evident and their focus. Hearing the crew's testimonies about how they came to serve on mission was inspiring. One testimony that stood out to me came from a chef aboard the ship. The story of how she used her talents and skills on board brought to my attention the beauty of God’s plan for our lives.
I left the Logos Hope feeling encouraged and hopeful, seeing what God has done and continues to do in the lives of its crew. Before I visited Logos Hope, I had reservations about serving internationally; however, after my experience, I feel much more open to serving abroad!
